About this place

Cádiz’s central market was designed by Torcuato Benjumeda as a neoclassical quadrangle with Doric porticoes, built on the site of the old orchard of the Descalzos convent, today Plaza de la Libertad. It is still the city’s reference market.

In the morning it is a good place to see the produce: fish and shellfish from the bay, meats, fruit and vegetables. Around the courtyard there is a food corner with stalls and bars where you can try tapas without leaving the market.

During Carnival the square hosts popular events such as the Carrusel de Coros. Check opening times, which differ on weekdays and weekends.
