About this place

In the 18th century Cádiz was a port trading with the Americas, and its merchants built hundreds of lookout towers on top of their houses to watch for ships. In 1778 the Tavira Tower was declared the city’s official watchtower, and it stands about 45 metres above sea level.

Today you climb it to see the old town from above and for the camera obscura session, which projects a live image of the streets, rooftops and sea onto a white screen.

It is one of the most recommended visits in the centre. Book or check times on its website, since the camera obscura sessions depend on sunlight.
